JODIE'S GROOMIN' CATS

"INTEGRITY, MORALS AND KINDNESS "
JODIE'S GROOMIN' CATS was created way back in 2009. I started out as a young, naive and oblivious vet nurse working in clinics. Training amongst other staff to do a little bit of shaving clients pets before surgery. There weren't many cats or dogs that came in needing sedation to be groomed however the odd one would. It was quite weird watching a pet come in with full fur and then go home without it. I realised that there needs to be another alternative to putting cats and dogs to sleep to shave, brush the knots and matts. It was expensive back then and the pet would go home completely naked and still half sedated which is not always the best experience. This can be avoided if cats are generally ok to be handled with the right groomer.
There are a percentage of cats though who have no other option but to have this procedure done if they are - very traumatised , very aggressive, highly anxious and lash out or they just can't be handled even by owner. I assess each cat or dog's situation individually before commencing a session in their home. I will always do what is best for the pet.
Cats have become just as popular as the dog companion taking up residence in the family home. Whether snuggling on the couch or on top of the bed, maybe just snoozing on the floor in the sun. going for a quick walk. Dogs and cats vary in their needs, grooming though is pretty similar. Fluffy cats and dogs do get the tangles. No matter how much you brush. It will happen at some point. The persian, ragdoll, maine coon and domestic long hair cats always need attention. Knots develop especially under the chin, around the ears, the back end and under the belly. Then you know it is time for some grooming pampering. This can be done at home regularly. Shaving though, it best left for the professional.
Any pet that needs attention with their coats, ALWAYS be gentle and have a calm, patient and friendly attitude towards them. They can be overwhelmed at something new being done to them so it is very important to be respectful. Cats are very smart at sniffing out someone who doesn't really like them. They are very in tune with their emotions, if they don't like you, you need to win them over not force yourself to like you!! They can predict a situation pretty much straight away.. They dislike any changes in the home, they are creatures of habit and routine so doing something different to their body may trigger a little stress and anxiety in general which can become a behavioural problem down the track, ie - urinating in other areas, aggressive behaviour, altered eating patterns.. So grooming sessions need to be as easy and quick as possible. If you can't do it, don't keep going! Please suggest another option.
Cats don't like to be talked down too, manipulated or controlled in an aggressive manner. They will retaliate with lashing out, they will snarl, hiss or spit and become overwhelmed and result in either biting or scratching you which is certainly a very horrible ending for everyone. The techniques that I use are my own. ***** I don't harness cats, I don't muzzle cats and I certainly don't yell or abuse cats verbally **** THIS IS NOT A NORMAL PROCESS IN HOW I HANDLE OR TREAT ANY ANIMAL ! **** No-one should.. Restraints need to be used with caution.. A towel wrap can be used for a cat that is really fidgety however excessive force to hold a cat is not acceptable in my opinion.
Jodie's Groomin Cats is thriving in fact , I am so busy I can't keep up. I try to help everyone however with any successful business that is in demand in this competitive market , I will always stay honest, I will always keep grounded and I won't lose sight of my vision - I will NEVER jeopardise my quality of work I provide to the cat loving community. I will always try to maintain the great connection nd trust I have earnt with my clients and their cats over the last 15 years. I don't charge anyone who wants information or help in trying to groom their cats in fact, I am more than happy to assist and encourage owners to be part of the process.
